"foreign affairs officials kindly write up lengthy briefing notes for everyone [Peters is] going to meet, explaining the oddity of his position and why he can’t always be assumed to be representing the New Zealand government’s position on foreign policy issues"...the foreign affairs portfolio is really nothing more than a bauble.
And Kiwiblog agrees that National should have more firmly said that a National Government would not have a Minister of Foreign Affairs that says:
"he will criticise a trade agreement while overseas, and [campaign] against it in NZ before the ink is even dry".
